Alec Templeton: Bach goes to town for organ solo
Alec Templeton’s (1910-1963) tongue-in-cheek Bach goes to town, subtitled “prelude and fugue in swing” is a delightful homage to the great Johann Sebastian Bach. Templeton was blind from birth, and moved from his native Wales to New York City, where he composed and recorded many such witty character pieces. Made famous by jazz clarinetist Benny Goodman, Bach goes to town was originally scored for piano solo.
I have transcribed it freely for organ solo. It makes for an excellent encore!
