J S Bach: Sinfonia to Cantata 29 "Wir Danken Dir" transcribed for organ
Johann Sebastian Bach's celebratory Sinfonia to his Cantata no. 29, "Wir Danken Dir, Gott" transcribed for organ for the pipe organ by James Kennerley.
Composed for the opening celebrations of the Leipzig town council in 1731 the translation is "We thank thee, God": presumably Bach had his budget approved and passed by the council! Originally composed for orchestra (including three magisterial baroque trumpets), this transcription was made to take advantage of instruments with a solo reed (in contrast to other transcription by Dupré, Guilmant et al.)
This version is intended for a three-manual instrument. I have deliberately left stop indications to a bare minimum, instead preferring to illustrate the salient orchestral timbres from the full score, with an understanding that the most successful registration schemes will vary widely from instrument to instrument.
