Kennerley: O salutaris hostia (SATB a cappella)
Kennerley: O salutaris hostia (SATB a cappella)
A setting of the Eucharistic hymn by St. Thomas Aquinas (1225-1274) that I wrote in 2013 for the choir of Saint Mary the Virgin (Smokey Mary’s), New York City. It was intended and a companion piece for the sublime setting of Tantum Ergo by Maurice Duruflé. As such, it has several traits in common, including the key area, the use of plainsong (initially in the upper voice, then in the alto as a faburden), and the modally-inflected harmonies that pairs so beautifully with those eternal melodies.
A keyboard-single voice version of this is also in preparation. Contact us for more information.
