Scott Joplin: Maple Leaf Rag transcribed for organ
Scott Joplin's Maple Leaf Rag, transcribed for the pipe organ by James Kennerley.
Raised on the Texas-Arkansas border, Scott Joplin (c. 1868–1917) composed over 100 ragtime pieces for the piano. This one, published in 1899, was the most popular during his lifetime. The work is infused with syncopation, an element that would come to define the ragtime genre, and this new arrangement allows for use of the Kotzschmar organ's various percussion stops, including the Marimba, Xylophone, and Glockenspiel.
